Volume II, Edition 3

   December 2007

Hello Readers,

Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks to all for reading this year and I hope 2008 is a prosperous and joyful year for all. The new year offers new challenges for me for sure. If you haven't heard, I optioned the film rights to Sin and Vengeance earlier this year!  (An official announcement will be released when the Writer's Guild of America strike is over.)

What does that mean?

The owner of a small production company read and fell in love with Sin and Vengeance. She has contracted the right to write the only authorized screenplay version of the book and sell it to a Hollywood studio. The script should be done by October and will be marketed to movie studios immediately after that.

When might the movie come out?

If the movie is made, a release is likely in 2010. It takes about a year for the script and a year to make the movie. There is also lots of behind-the-scenes work that must be done to make this all happen.

There is a long way to go between now and the filming. The biggest hurdle is selling the script. I'll keep you posted on progress. I've gotten lots of questions like, can we go to see filming? Can I be an extra? and so on... It's too early to tell, but I will keep you posted here.

And the winners are...

The winner of the October drawing is Patrick M. of Wrentham. The winner of the November drawing is Edie M. from Lebanon, TN. Congratulations! You've both won a copy of Taking Stock. Send me a note to tell me who you'd like the book signed to and where you'd like it to go.

There is a running list of winners on the contest page if you're ever curious to know who's winning all those books.

Happy Holidays All!

New England Crimebake

In November I attended the New England Crimebake, a conference for crime writers. I was really surprised by the number of writers who came to Dedham from all over the country and even Canada! I'd never known we had such a great writer's conference here in Massachusetts.

The photo above is taken with Lee Child at the conference. I also met Michelle Martinez, Mary Burton and literally hundreds of other writers and aspiring writers.

If you aspire to write, I strongly suggest attending a conference similar to this one. It's a great way to meet other writers, agents and those able to publish and publicize your work!

The Hidden Code Contest

With the holidays coming I didn't want to burden everyone with another clue to solve, but I thought I would send out a bit of hope.

First, a dose of reality.... The likelihood of a Sin and Vengeance movie being made is a long shot.

But, if a successful movie were made, the prize for the Hidden Code Contest will go much higher. Remember the minimum prize increases by 22 cents every time a book is sold. (The prize stops going up once the contest is solved.)

If I'm going to write a big check to someone, I'd be delighted if it were someone that's been a longtime reader! Don't go crazy yet, but if the script sells in October, sharpen your pencils!

Good Luck!!!
